About the event
The aubade, traditionally a lover’s lament at daybreak, has long marked the threshold between night and morning, of intimacy and departure. In this generative workshop, we’ll trace the aubade from canonical roots to its contemporary reinventions, exploring how poets transform this form to address love, loss, grief, and awakening in all its senses. Through close readings and guided prompts, participants will experiment with crafting their own “morning poems,” using the aubade’s tension between closeness and distance to spark new creative work. Open to writers of all levels. Please take a look at the following poems prior to the workshop: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poetrymagazine/poems/56769/aubade-with-burning-city
