4th Annual Jax Poetry Fest  |  April 3-27, 2019

JAX POETRY FEST

Jax Poetry Fest is an annual event produced by the North Florida nonprofit, Hope at Hand.

Every April, in celebration of National Poetry Month, JPF works to inspire community-based poetry projects and spark a love for language in North Florida. Designed to engage the community, the poetry programming of Hope at Hand is a unique arts and culture experience for Duval County. Spoken word performances, poetry slams, youth poetry contests, and workshops are offered at no cost to the public. Funding from the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville, City of Jacksonville and the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs allow North Florida to get involved with poetry. Let this experience ignite your poetry passion as we celebrate the power of language!

WHO WE ARE

Hope at Hand was founded in 2009 by Steffani Fletcher. She has 23 years of teaching and administrative experience with Duval County Public Schools, and holds degrees in Elementary Education and Educational Leadership. She has earned national certifications from the American Montessori Society and the International Federation for Biblio/Poetry Therapy.

Hope at Hand staff members have specialized training in education, theater, meditation, yoga, poetry therapy and counseling. Our reputation as a direct service provider is reliable and the demand for services is increasing.  We facilitate HOPE.

WHAT WE DO
WHAT WE DO

Lessons are carefully crafted and designed, blending honest reflection and visions of change through poetry.

Hope at Hand is a nonprofit organization that provides poetry and art lessons for at-risk and vulnerable youth populations. Using creativity, poetry, and therapeutic approaches, Hope at Hand facilitates healing and personal growth for children, adolescents, and adults. With poetry as the foundation for all programming, Hope at Hand provides participants with strategies that will offer continuous support as they work to overcome personal barriers. Our materials aren’t complicated or expensive- many lessons use recycled or repurposed materials. Lessons are carefully crafted and designed, blending honest reflection and visions of change through poetry. Utilizing various teaching techniques, community building, diversity and interpersonal skill-building, our programming focuses on providing independent wellness strategies that participants can use to strengthen their own self-esteem beyond the scope of the actual lesson.
