Storytelling in a Poem featuring Yvette Angelique

April 27th | 12–1 PM

The Bop poem is a fun 20-line poetic structure (3 stanzas) where we abandon rhyme schemes, syllables, or meters. Just tell a conflict story and end on a resolution—or not. In between stanzas there is a one-line refrain (perhaps from a song or a quote). You will SING it! We’ll have so much fun with this playful structure invented by Afaa Michael Weaver during a Cave Canem retreat. Yvette is part of the Cave Canem family and has played with the Bop poem, even expanded the form, as a storytelling and singing form, anchored in African American traditions.
